Our size and geographical reach allow us to draw on specialists from building services engineering and energy and sustainability, building structures and surveying, to IT consultancy.

Paul D. Flatt BEng (Hons), CEng FIET, FCIBSE, Group Chairman & CEO
Paul has transformed Bradbrook Consulting into an international multi-disciplinary consultancy and the largest privately owned engineering consultancy in the UK. He focused on both expanding the range of services, as well as expanding the international business, with new offices in New York, India, UAE, Asia Pacific and Australasia.
Paul has led the business through a phase of significant growth where turnover and offices have doubled in five years. Prior to being appointed Group Chairman, Paul was Group Managing Director and built the firm’s leadership in mission critical engineering with many of the world’s major banks. He also broadened the firm’s multi-disciplinary offer and integrated Energy and Sustainability Consultancy, Structural Engineering, Surveying and IT, AV and Security Consultancy.
Paul has spent the majority of his career at Bradbrook Consulting, joining as an Intermediate Electrical Engineer in 1989, when the firm was still John Hurley & Partners. Paul has also held Board positions for the British Council of Offices.
Colin Smith, Chief Financial Officer
Colin Smith is moving the financial platform of the business forward to encompass the international growth as well as the monitoring of clear KPIs to ensure the business maintains profitability with controlled growth.
A Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants, Colin has a history of CFO and management roles having spent the last five years in the Medical Devices industry working with two of the UK’s most innovative Implant Research and Development companies and thus has extensive experience in working within a project based consultancy environment and establishing value enhancing strategies working alongside multi-national business partners.
Colin joined the Group Board of Bradbrook Consulting in December 2011.
Robert Thorogood BEng (Hons) CEng MIET, Executive Director
Robert Thorogood, Executive Director of Bradbrook Consulting is driving the engineering standards forward for the group to ensure they meet today’s needs from a mission critical requirement through to low energy and sustainable solutions for both buildings and clients.
Throughout his career, Robert has been a thought leader in data centre and critical engineering design for sectors such as: commercial, financial, healthcare and technology. He ensures the company maintains its high engineering quality through his chair position on Bradbrook Consulting’s Technical Board.
Joining the business in 2004, Robert gained multi-disciplinary experience from his previous director position at Aukett, an architectural/engineering design firm. This experience has allowed him to understand and develop the processes for leading complex engineering projects as the Lead Consultant for the group.
Paul Roche BEng (Hons) CEng MIET, Executive Director
Paul Roche, Executive Director of Bradbrook Consulting, is driving the international expansion of the group forward to ensure consistency in delivery and that we meet our clients’ needs around the globe.
Paul has been involved with a number of the acquisitions, as well as the setting up of new offices in India, Singapore and Sydney.
Joining the business in 2000, Paul was responsible for developing work both in the transport and public sector. Paul was previously with Railtrack where he was responsible for the building services engineering and maintenance of assets.
James O’Byrne MCIBSE, Executive Director UK
James O’Byrne, Director with Bradbrook Consulting, is responsible for leading the continued growth of the development market for the Group.
James has over 25 years of experience within the building services engineering sector. In 1988 he joined Hilson Moran and worked his way up the ranks untill his departure in 2009 as a Director. For the past 10 years he has been involved in a number of high profile projects, both new build and refurbishments in a number of sectors including commercial, residential and retail.
James has a particular interest in low energy and sustainable design and an integrated team approach to delivering innovative but appropriate solutions.
Adrian Gray BEng (Hons), CEng MCIBSE, MIMechE, Executive Director UK
Adrian Gray, Group Director with Bradbrook Consulting, is responsible for focusing on strategic leadership and business growth to enhance shareholder value.
Adrian joined Bradbrook Consulting after previously working as an equity owning Main Board Director at Chapman BDSP. He also worked at Waterman Group Plc for 18 years where he had been Managing Director of the Building Services Group for eight years.
Adrian will continue to utilise his passion for design by leading selected major projects and managing client accounts.
David Fox MIET, Regional Director UK
David Fox, Director with Bradbrook Consulting, is a member of the Management Board and heads the development of our CAD and software platforms. He maintains a hands on approach to major projects and is actively involved in developing concepts and strategy with our clients and their stakeholders.
David has been in the construction industry since 1976. Having completed an apprenticeship with the department of the environment, David subsequently held senior design positions within various departments that specialised in distribution networks and critical systems. David left government employment in 1988 and has since worked as a building services consultant.
David has been able to apply his skills across many sectors including development and fit-out in the commercial and technical fields, where his understanding of critical system design ensures our clients needs are met. Along the way he has assisted the British Council of Offices, working with their technical affairs committee in developing the fit-out guide for their offices. David first joined Bradbrook Consulting in 2006.
Andrew Tate CEng MIET , Regional Director UK
Andrew Tate, a Regional Director with Bradbrook Consulting, provides direction and support to the design teams within our Blackfriars office.
Andy has been in the building services industry for over 30 years and brings a wealth of experience from both the UK and overseas across multiple sectors. Joining the business in 2011 from Halcrow Group Limited, Andy brought leadership experience on major projects with particular experience of those with high technical content.
Mark Arthur MIET, Regional Director UK
Mark Arthur, Regional Director of Bradbrook Consulting, oversees the growth of the business in Scotland. Currently, Mark is responsible for the group’s accreditations such as Achilles Link-up (Transportation), Achilles UVDB (Utilities) and Achilles FPAL (Oil & Gas).
Mark has over 15 years of experience and was previously one of the founding directors, and Managing Director of ATCO Consulting prior to its acquisition by Bradbrook Consulting.
Mark has promoted framework with Scotlands leading healthcare providers as well as establishing the Transportation and Utilities Division with a strong presence in all types of public sector work including local authorities.
Mark Simpson BSC, MSC, CEng MCIBSE, Regional Director Singapore
Mark Simpson is Regional Director of Bradbrook Consulting’s operations in Singapore. He has been responsible for numerous data centre projects including the Jurong data centre project, which was subsequently acquired by the Digital Realty Trust.
Mark joins us from M&E Consultants DSCO Group with almost 20 years’ experience of engineering consultancy
in Asia. He graduated from Staffordshire University with a Bachelor of Engineering and went on to do a Master of Science.
Mark is currently leading a number of projects including one with Equinix which will be their third data centre development in Singapore. Once complete this will provide approximately 385,000ft² of gross floor area and will accommodate 5,000 cabinets over multiple phases. Over the past two years the Singapore team have completed a number of projects for a number of multinationals including JP Morgan, Barclays Bank, IO and Qantas.
Dan Pointon BEng (Hons) CEng MIET, Regional Director Australia
Dan Pointon, Regional Director in Australia, is charged with continuing the Australian expansion of Bradbrook Consulting whilst ensuring the group tradition of providing the highest level of service.
Dan is an accomplished Electrical Engineer with 15 years of consulting engineering experience. Dan joined Bradbrook Consulting in 2005, initially with the London office prior to establishing the Australian office.
Dan’s background and passion is mission critical engineering. He leads multi-disciplinary project teams to deliver world-class solutions for major corporate and institutional clients across Australia, Asia and Europe. Complex engineering projects are second nature to Bradbrook Consulting. Focus sectors include data centres, telecommunications, healthcare, industrial and commercial-base building and fit-out.
Richard Whitaker MSC, Head of Energy & Sustainability UK
Richard is head of Bradbrook Consulting’s Energy and Sustainability division and specialises in the design and delivery of low carbon buildings. He brings an innovative approach to energy and carbon solutions in new build, refurbishment and fit-out projects, as well as optimising the use of energy and other natural resources in operational buildings.
With over 15 years of experience he has designed, developed and implemented sustainable solutions in buildings and building services. His experience covers a variety of different types of projects including commercial, education, telecommunications, critical facilities and residential developments. He works closely with the client and design teams to ensure that the client’s aspirations are met and that an integrated approach towards energy and sustainability is adopted. His broad experience has allowed him to implement solutions on projects from individual buildings right through to developing business wide environmental strategies for large corporate companies.
Richard formerly worked at ebm-papst as a Divisional Manager for their refrigeration and air-conditioning sector. Richard was involved in the specification of energy efficiency products for the HVAC industry focussing on data centres and large supermarket retailers, providing them with improvements in energy efficiency through specification of appropriate central plants.
Richard holds a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Surrey. He began his career in the development of energy efficient cooling and heating systems before moving into energy and sustainability consultancy in the built environment.
Jonathan Blake, Head of Structures UK
Jonathan’s team is currently delivering large scale data centre schemes in both North America and Sweden. His team have also been involved with a headquarters building in Saint Petersburg, together with a number of projects within the UK which include multi-storey residential developments, office refurbishments and data centres. We are also involved in pre-acquisition and structural surveying and reporting works.
Jonathan Blake has over 28 years of experience in the management and delivery of structural and multi-disciplinary engineering projects throughout the UK and internationally.
Jonathan previously worked for Halcrow Yolles which is now part of the CH2M Hill Group. Historically Jonathan has delivered a multi-storey office and residential scheme for British Land and Streatham Leisure Centre which involved a suspended first floor ice arena, and a number of large scale urban regeneration schemes in and around London. These included both residential and commercial properties, together with reporting on a number of structures from modern offices to listed historic properties.
